The main ElvUI alternatives for WoW Forever are NDui, RealUI and EllesmereUI, or a handful of separate add-ons. ElvUI itself does have Forever support, so you only need one of these if you don't like it, or if its "initial" support gives you trouble. See ElvUI in Forever.
Our information comes from each project's releases as of early November, not from playing with them. Check the status on each page first.
| Option | What it is | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| A full package with many built-in modules | Popular in the Chinese-speaking community, with a separate Forever branch and release file | |
| RealUI | A minimal interface | Aims for a sparse look, so it may suit you if ElvUI feels busy |
| EllesmereUI | An interface editor | The author pitches it on performance and customisation. We haven't tested those claims |
| Azerite UI | A fan edit of AzeriteUI | A personal take on another UI. Check its page for what's changed |
| Separate add-ons | Bars, nameplates, frames and bags chosen one by one | More pieces to update, but one breaking doesn't take the rest with it |
The build-your-own route
Bartender4 or Dominos for bars, Plater Nameplates for nameplates,
VuhDo or Grid2 for healing frames, and
Baganator for bags gets you most of a package's reach. Our ElvUI vs a modular UI comparison covers the trade, and five add-ons is a good size to start at.
Before you switch
- Back up your
InterfaceandWTFfolders. - Export your ElvUI profile, so you can come back.
- Disable ElvUI before enabling the new package. Two full UIs at once will fight over the same frames.
- Expect to redo your layout: ElvUI strings don't load in other packages.
If a package breaks after a patch, you can fall back to the default UI by disabling it. Edit Mode's layouts are separate from add-on settings.
Tried one of these on live: tell others in UI talk.
