A profile string is your add-on settings turned into text. Paste it into the same add-on somewhere else and the settings come back. It's how players share a UI layout and how you move your own to an alt.

What's inside

Usually layout: positions, sizes, colours, which bars or windows are shown. Some add-ons go further. Plater Nameplates strings can carry scripts, and WeakAuras strings are code by design. Code from a string runs in your game, which is why those deserve a careful read before you accept them.

Export first, always

Before importing anything, export your own profile and keep the text in a file. If the new layout doesn't suit you, paste yours back and you're where you started.

Import into a new profile

Most add-ons let you create a profile and import into it. Your old one stays untouched, and switching back is one click.

Where to find it

Our UI setups page lists the import and export menus for ElvUI, Plater Nameplates, Details! Damage Meter and others, with each add-on's Forever status.

Why we don't host strings yet

A string that looks like a layout can include scripts. Until we can check strings before posting them, we describe setups in words and link to add-ons instead.
