Launch day: which addons to install first, which to wait on
Updated 2026-11-03
Forever goes live today. Authors are pushing updates all day, and every addon you add is one more thing that can break while servers are busy. Here is the order we would install things in.
Hour one: safety net
- BugSack and BugGrabber: errors get caught quietly instead of popping up in the middle of a fight, and you can read them later.
- Your addon manager pointed at the Forever installation. Check it twice.
First evening: leveling comfort
- A map helper: TomTom for waypoints, Leatrix Maps for map tweaks.
- Leatrix Plus for a long list of small options in one place.
- A bag addon if you chose the Classic preset.
Questie has a Forever release, but quest helpers deserve patience. Forever adds over a thousand new quests and new zones, so a quest database built for 2004's quests will be wrong in places until its authors catch up. Watch each addon's page for a Forever-specific release.
First dungeon: around level 13
Forever's nine new dungeons start at level 13. This is when a boss mod (Deadly Boss Mods (DBM) or BigWigs Bossmods) and a damage meter (Details! Damage Meter) earn their place. Boss mods need timers for the new bosses, so a build from before launch may not know them yet.
Level 60 and December
Raids open on 9 December (Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, Onyxia's Lair). Raid frames (VuhDo, Grid2), nameplates (Plater Nameplates) and WeakAuras (no Forever release at launch) can wait until then. By December most authors will have had a month to ship Forever builds.
Skip for now
- Big UI overhauls, unless you used them all through beta. When they break they break everything at once.
- Anything that has not been updated since before the beta started.
Check the compatibility tracker for what is confirmed, and tell us on the forum what worked for you.
