Install WoW Forever add-ons by hand on a Mac

Updated 1 Nov 2026 · folder name _forever_ Reported until we confirm it on the live client

Default folder: /Applications/World of Warcraft/_forever_/Interface/AddOns

Steps

  1. Open the Battle.net app, pick World of Warcraft, and choose World of Warcraft: Forever in the game version menu above Play.
  2. Click the gear next to Play and choose Show in Finder. Open _forever_, then Interface, then AddOns. Create Interface and AddOns if they aren't there yet.
  3. Download the add-on from its author's page. Safari unzips downloads by default; other browsers leave a .zip you double-click.
  4. Drag the extracted folders into AddOns. Each folder must hold a .toc file directly.
  5. Quit the game with Cmd+Q and start it again so it picks up the new folders.

Common errors

macOS says it can't verify the add-on

Add-ons are text files the game reads; macOS shouldn't ask about them. If something in the download is an app or installer, it isn't an add-on: delete it.

There's a __MACOSX folder in AddOns

It's an archive leftover, not an add-on. Delete it.

I can't find the Applications folder path

In Finder press Cmd+Shift+G and paste /Applications/World of Warcraft/_forever_/Interface/AddOns. If you installed the game elsewhere, use Show in Finder from Battle.net instead.

Finder won't let me paste into AddOns

Check that the folder belongs to your user: select it, Cmd+I, and give yourself Read & Write under Sharing & Permissions.
