Plater vs default nameplates in WoW Forever

Updated 1 Nov 2026 · Forever status, versions and dates come from each add-on's page in our directory and change when authors release updates

Nameplates are the bars over enemies' heads. The default ones are usable; add-ons make casts and threat easier to read, which matters most for tanks and for anyone interrupting. Forever's combat rules limit what any of them can read, so they mostly restyle what the game shows.

Our verdict

Default nameplates are fine while leveling solo. Once you tank, or your group relies on interrupts, a nameplate add-on pays off.

Threat Plates if you want it to work with no setup; Plater if you enjoy tuning. Both have Forever builds.
