Moving your Forever beta UI to the live game

If you spent five weeks of beta building the perfect layout, you do not have to build it again. Beta and live are separate installations with separate folders, so nothing moves by itself, but two folders hold everything you need.

What lives where

• Interface/AddOns holds the addons themselves: code, textures, sounds.
• WTF holds your settings: key bindings, chat windows, and every addon's saved variables, both account-wide and per character.

Copy both and you have your UI. Copy only Interface and you get the addons back with default settings.

Step by step

1. Close the game and any addon manager. Managers write to these folders while open.
2. Make a backup of the beta Interface and WTF folders somewhere outside the game directory.
3. If the live Forever folder already has its own Interface or WTF (because you logged in once), back those up too.
4. Copy the beta folders into the live _forever_ folder.
5. Log into live once with any character, then quit. This creates the live account folder under WTF/Account.
6. If the live account folder has a different name from the beta one, move the contents of the beta folder (especially SavedVariables) into the live one.

Character-specific settings sit under WTF/Account/<account>/<realm>/<character>. Forever replaces realm choice with rulesets and gives characters two-part names, so the folder names on live may not match beta ones. If a character's layout doesn't load, compare the folder names and copy the files across by hand.

When an addon ignores its old settings

Some addons store profiles by character name, and the live name may differ. Most profile-based addons (Details! Damage Meter, Bartender4, ElvUI, Plater Nameplates) let you pick or copy an existing profile in their options: look for a Profiles tab and choose the old one.

Updating after the move

Beta builds of an addon may not be the build its author ships for live. Once everything loads, open your manager, make sure it is on the live Forever installation, and update all. Keep the backup for a week before deleting it.
