Leveling addons in Forever and the problem of 1,000 new quests

Forever is not a copy of 2004's world. Blizzard says it adds more than 1,000 new quests across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, plus new zones: Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas, the Riverglades and a new starting area, Zephras Isle. That is great for players and hard for one kind of addon.

Why quest helpers lag

Addons like Questie carry a database: which NPC gives which quest, where the objectives are, what drops what. That data took years to build for the original game. For Forever, quests that changed, moved or are brand new are either wrong or missing until the authors gather fresh data. The same goes for leveling guides such as RestedXP Guides or Zygor Guides, which are written step by step for specific routes.

Questie and RestedXP both have Forever releases of the addon itself. How well their data covers the new zones is what launch week will show: expect some zones to be solid and others partial. Read each addon's page for the current status.

What to use meanwhile

• The game itself. If you chose the Enhanced preset, quest objective areas are already on your map.
• TomTom for waypoints you set yourself, or ones shared by other players as /way commands.
• Leatrix Plus for small leveling comforts like automatic quest accept and turn-in options.
• HandyNotes with community note packs as they appear.

How to tell an addon is ready

• The author's page lists a file for Forever, not only for Classic Era or retail.
• The changelog mentions Forever zones by name.
• Players on the forum report it showing the right objectives in the new zones.

We mark an addon "Forever version" only when the first of these is true, and say so on its page.

Is leveling without a helper worth it?

Honestly, yes, for a while. A lot of Forever's world is new to everyone, and reading the quest text is part of the fun. Add the helper once you're on your second character.
