Classic or Enhanced preset: what it means for your addons

Updated 2026-11-03

The first thing Forever asks on login, before you even choose a ruleset, is which experience preset you want. Blizzard's launch post lists what each one switches. You can change it later under Game Menu → Options, and several of its settings overlap with things players have always used addons for.

What the presets change

According to Blizzard's announcement:

Setting Classic Enhanced
Character models Standard definition High definition
Quest objective areas on the map Off On
One-bag inventory Off On
Transmog Off On
Movement keys Turn the camera Strafe
Screen layout Classic layout Centralized layout

Bags

Enhanced already merges your bags into one window. That covers the main reason most people install a bag addon. You may still want one for categories, sorting rules or searching your alts' bags (Baganator, Bagnon, AdiBags, BetterBags), but it is no longer a must on day one.

With Classic, a bag addon is one of the first quality-of-life installs.

Quests

Quest objective areas tell you roughly where to go. With them on, a waypoint addon such as TomTom is a convenience. With them off (Classic preset), players who want help lean on quest helpers. Keep in mind that Forever adds over a thousand new quests, so any addon with its own quest database needs fresh data for Forever before it is useful. Check the status on each addon's page.

Screen layout

The Centralized layout moves the default frames toward the middle of the screen. If you plan to install a full UI replacement like ElvUI or move frames with MoveAny, the preset matters less: those addons take over positions anyway. If you play mostly default UI, try both layouts before you commit to an addon.

Our suggestion

Pick Enhanced if you are unsure (Blizzard recommends it too), play an evening with almost no addons, then fill the gaps. You will install fewer addons, and every one you do install will be fixing something you actually noticed.
