The hunter macros worth making first in WoW Forever are about your pet: one key to send it in, and one that revives or mends it. The syntax below is standard across modern WoW, but we haven't run these in Forever yet. Spell names must match your spellbook exactly, so change them if yours differ.

To create one, type /macro, choose New, paste the text and drag the icon to your bar.

Attack with your pet

#showtooltip
/petattack
/cast Your Shot Name

Replace Your Shot Name with the shot you open with. The pet goes in with your first shot, so you don't need a separate key.

Revive, summon or mend

#showtooltip
/cast [@pet,dead] Revive Pet; [nopet] Call Pet 1; Mend Pet

One button then does whichever of the three fits. Check these spell names against your spellbook, as hunter abilities may have different names or arrive at different levels.

Mouseover macros

The pattern [@mouseover,help,nodead] casts on the player under your cursor, falling back to your target:

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][help] Your Spell Name

Use it with any friendly-target ability you have.

What macros can't do

One key press can only fire one ability on the global cooldown, so a macro won't run a whole rotation. Blizzard's combat rules, written for Midnight, are also tighter on add-ons than older guides assume.

Add-ons that help

  • MacroManager offers a reworked macro window, and Macro Toolkit is a macro tool. Both ship a Forever file.
  • PetXPBarPlus shows your pet's XP and level on its frame.
  • tullaRange colours buttons when your target's out of range.
  • Clicked manages key bindings, and can be a tidier place for some of this.

For the rest of the class, see hunter add-ons and the hunter page.
